Our Family’s First Camping Trip
School was out for spring break so the kids were all available for activities. The kids were into nature and the outdoors and for vacation, they wanted us to go on an outdoor adventure. My wife and I was asking them where would they want to go since we lived in the city and we will have to go to the country to be able to see mountains and lots of trees.
We all decided to go to Igbaras instead, the place where we grew up as a child. Igbaras is a mountainous area and there, you can find the highest peak in the whole of Iloilo. Distant islands are visible from the peak of Mt. Napulak. The trek can be filled with danger since the trail is steep.
Mt. Napulak is actually a giant rock sitting atop a mountain. There are 2 trails which you can take to reach the summit. The first trail was for experts because it is very steep, while the second one was for families with children because it is a slope.
The path is curved gradually so anyone, even a child, can hike up. And the path is covered with grass and alongside the path are bushes. This path was actually created by the local government on order to attract tourists into climbing Mt. Napulak. We brought with us a Bivvy and a family tent. Since we cannot all squeeze into the family tent, I will be sleeping inside a Bivvy.
We also packed foods that are easy to prepare. The hike itself will take two days, and you will have to stop after several hours when you reach the camp site. In the summit, birds of all kinds will be flying like and perching on you as though your arm were a tree branch. Although it will take us a couple of days, the view in the peak would be worth it.
