What Is Fly Fishing?
Fly fishing makes use of artificial bait instead of the normal worms or other insects. This bait or ‘fly’ is made with plastic, foam. yarn or something else and is meant to create a somewhat similar form of the insects in the area. It is then tied to a hook and then a spin rod. Many call this spin rod fishing. The flies are manufactured to be very attractive and colorful so more kinds of fish can be lured, take for example the flies used inin saltwater fishing called sea flies. On many rivers, fly fishing has become very popular and has proven quite effective compared to the traditional methods. Below are the common kinds of flies used:
* Dry flies- created to replicate insects that float on the water surface. The tricky part is making sure that the fly moves in a way that mimics the natural insect and that it doesn’t move against the current. Why? If the fly seems to be something foreign in the water, it'll just be ignored by the fish.
* Wet flies- these are designed to look like insects that are drowned or drowning below the surface of the water. It is also the oldest form of fly fishing known.
* Nymph flies- a nymph is the stage in an insects lifecyle between an egg and adult. Nymph fishing is very popular because fish love nymph for food. Flies are made to mimic the action of the nymph emerging from its shell.
* Streamers and buck tail flies- flies that mimic small fish's movements meant to attract bigger fish. The main difference between the two is that streamers are tied with feathers whereas buck tails are tied with hair. This form of fly fishing entails much more skill in the manipulation of the rod.
There are other kinds of fl fishing including some that combine one or two of these kinds. The general rule being making sure the fly looks like food to the fish. Fish like trout and salmon are the most common fish to catch with this kind of fishing but experts are finding more ways to make the flies more appealing to a larger number of fish.
Being both exiting and effective, fly fishing is becoming one of the most used forms of fishing worldwide.
